How to Care for Your Car’s Exterior- Davis Chevrolet

Because your car is probably one of your most significant investments, it's critical that you treat it with respect and care. Maintaining your car's exterior is a year-round task due to the fact that it is exposed to the elements throughout the year. Snow and ice, wind, and even the hot sun can damage your car. To maintain the exterior of your car, whether it's a Chevrolet or another brand, follow these pointers.

Wash It Regularly

Cleaning your car is a no-brainer when it comes to car care. To keep the paint in good condition, wash it frequently with soap and water to remove any dirt or grime. Regular washing will also help keep your equipment in better shape by reducing the chance of rust. It's best to wash your car in the shade, early in the morning, or late at night when the sun isn't too hot. Add water to two 5-gallon buckets and set aside. One can be filled with a cleaner, while the other is kept clean and ready for rinsing. Choose a high-quality car wash and make sure it removes all of the dust and dirt from the paint and the undercarriage if you prefer to do it yourself.

After washing your car, be sure to let it air dry completely. Use a soft cloth to wipe down the car's exterior. The paint can develop mineral spots if this step is skipped, and those spots will stain when exposed to the sun.

Always Use Cleaners Designed for Autos

Never wash your car with household cleaners. Spend the time to go to the store and buy a good car cleaner. Household cleaners have the potential to scuff and damage the paint if not used properly. It's also critical to clean it with a supple cloth or sponge. When in doubt, reach for a terry or microfiber cloth.

Put a little wax on it

Waxing your car helps keep it looking new and protects the paint from damage. A layer of wax acts as a shield between the paint and the elements like the sun and rain. Even though you don't have to wax your car every time you wash it, it is recommended that you do so at least twice a year. Bring your car to a car wash that offers quick wax application or do it yourself.

Keep It Out of the Sun

The rays of the sun damage the paint on the outside of a car. Make every effort to keep your car cool and shaded during the hot summer months. When possible, park in the shade, keep your car in a garage, or invest in a car cover. A good cover will shield the car from the sun's harmful UV rays, preventing fading of the paint. If you cover your car, you'll keep it safe from things like sap dripping from trees, storm debris, and bird droppings. Washing your car is quick and easy, but the results are noticeable. The cleaner and more protective layer you apply, the longer the wood will last and look great.
